There Can Be Beauty in the World

(Tricolored Heron)

I found a virtual mentor whose video lessons for water color beginners included a patient and detailed episode on painting a Tricolored Heron. As he demonstrated using paper, a single calligraphy brush, several basic water color tabs, and a cup of water, I tried to replicate his technique using Procreate on an iPad.

In my own little world of trial and error, I could not escape the news of Russia’s first devastating advances on the innocents in Ukraine. As the horror unfolded, I cried. Tears seem to come easier with age. Maybe its because we’ve seen these horrors so many times before.

How is it that we live in a world with such beauty as in the feathers of the Tricolored Heron yet persist at war?
