“There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.”

I hope this website serves as an invitation to the first and a celebration of the second.

I have to admit that I’m a bit of a gear-head, that is, I like toys and playing with them. In this instance, in December of 2018, I purchased an iPad and digital pen and at about the same time a plastic gizmo that allowed me to mount my iPhone onto my birding scope.
Several weeks later, a January trip with friends to Cambria, a small town on the California coast, provided the opportunity to try out my iPhone-scope rig, when after hours of wind and heavy rain, the maniacal, slow-motion shrieks of two Red-Shouldered Hawks signaled clearing weather and a gorgeous sunset. I was able to capture an image of the bolder of the two birds, who was watching my every move with suspicion.
While the image was hardly an Audubon Photo-of-the-Year contender, it was clear and detailed enough to suggest that it might work as a reference photo for a painting. My new iPad would provide the canvas, brushes, and paint, or so I hoped. With that, a new passion was born, adding another dimension to over 65 years of birding in the U.S. and abroad.
This site is dedicated to awakening or deepening your passion for birds and all other aspects of the natural world too.
